Price of farm produce in China rose slightly last week (July 23-29)

Price of major farm produce monitored by MOFCOM rose slightly last week (July 23-29) compared with that of the previous week.


Affected by the heavy rain nationwide, wholesale price of 18 vegetables monitored by MOFCOM was up by 3.5% compared with that of the previous week, and up by 6.1% on an accumulative basis over the previous weeks, of which tomatoes, beans, and lettuce up by 17.6%, 12.8% and 11.9% respectively.


The retail price of egg began to rise after falling consecutively for five weeks, up by 0.7% compared with that of the previous week and down by 5.4% compared with that of the same period, and the price of egg in Shanghai, Chongqing and Tianjin up by1.7%, 0.8% and 0.5% respectively compared with that of the previous week.


The retail price of grain and cooking oil increased mostly, of which peanut oil up by 0.6% compared with that of the previous week and 6.3% compared with that at the end of March; rapeseed oil, and soybean oil rose by 0.4% and 0.1% compared with that of the previous week; rice and wheat flour were both up by 0.2% compared with that of the previous week.


The wholesale price of meat fluctuated slightly, of which pork was down by 0.4% compared with that of the previous week, and the price of pork in Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen were down by 1.6%, 1.2% and 1% respectively; beef, mutton and chicken was up by 0.6%, 0.4% and 0.2% respectively.


The wholesale price of 8 aquatic products fell for five weeks, down by 0.5% compared with that of the previous week and down by 2.4% on an accumulative basis over the previous four weeks, of which small hairtail, carp, and big hairtail down by 2%, 1.9% and 1.4% respectively compared with that of the previous week.
