SOriginated from the Chongming Industrial Zone as a county foreign investment zone, Chongming Industrial Zone was established with approval of the Shanghai Municipal Government in February 1996. It is one of the firstly-approved comprehensive municipal level industrial parks within Shanghai, and enjoys the special preferential policies of "self- revenue and self- expenditure, developing and reforming by itself" for island development.
The zone has a planned area of 9.97 square km with an excellent location. It is adjacent to Chengqiao New City in the east, close to the central downtown district of Chongming. In the south lies the Nanmen Harbor. In the North is the Chenhai Road. The traffic is very convenient.
Over the past 10 years since its foundation, by strictly fulfilling the overall requirements of "high starting-point planning, high standard construction, and high speed development" and upholding the principles of "focusing on the outstanding points, concentrating resources on the major, and carrying out step-by-step", Chongming Industrial Zone has made great efforts to enhance the construction of infrastructure and attracted a lot of enterprises to invest and run business in the Park with its outstanding investment environment, favorable policies, and first-rate service.
The Industrial zone enjoys its broad roads and beautiful natural environment. It was honored as "Shanghai Hi-tech Industrial Base" and "Shanghai Technology Zone". In 2003, it passed ISO Quality Management System and Environment Management System qualifications. From 2003, it was awarded the title "Shanghai Outstanding civilized Unit" successively for four years.
Now, all the preparatory works for the investment invitation of the Industrial zone is ready. Favorable business environment are created for the development of the enterprises settled in.
Up to now, there are 4600 companies registered in the zone and 43 settled in. During the 11th five-years, the zone achieved a total revenue up to RMB 4.8 billion and 2100 new companies were registered. It has grown up to an important economic promoter and industrial center of the Chongming islands.
With the progress of the construction of the nation-level eco-island of Chongming and the opening for traffic of tunnel & bridge across the Yangtze River, the industrial zone should speed up its pace in investment invitation and import more domestic and foreign hi-tech projects to optimize the current industrial structure of Chongming county and promote all its industrial enterprises to carry out scientific management.
Meanwhile, relying on its excellent and unique geographic location, resources and large industrial zone within Shanghai, the zone focuses on developing those high-tech, high value added, pollution-free and labor-intensive industrialization projects. And now it is actively constructing an auto parts manufacture base and a headquarters economic zone, making more efforts to construct and develop an eco-industrial zone with local Chongming characteristics.
